Health Economics Facility / Department of Public Health
The health economics activities at the Faculty of Medicine, which began in 2003, are centered at the Department of Public Health with its full members, the Institute/European Center of Pharmaceutical Medicine and the Institute of Nursing Science.
These activities are currently bundled in the Health Economics Facility.
The research activities take place at the interface between economics and clinical epidemiology/medicine. They focus on health technology assessment, in particular on the cost-benefit implications and the efficient use of drugs and other interventions in the healthcare system in Switzerland and internationally. Complementary activities take place in health services research. Current projects are concerned, for example, with value-based healthcare for lung cancer patients, antimicrobial resistance and the early assessment of the health economic characteristics of a new gene therapy.
